04 Sep Luke – Day 12
FORGOTTEN PRIVILEGE – Luke 3:3; Revelation 2:4-5; Psalm 51:10-12
John called his fellow Jews to prepare for the Messiah by being baptized, something till then they’d assumed only Gentile converts did. John made it a way for Jews to demonstrate their repentance. It was a mark of extreme humility, because it was admitting they were no better than Gentiles. That was so scandalous, it raised the ire of the religious leaders against John. But it rekindled for repentant Jews the blessing of being in covenant with God. As the old saying goes; “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone.”
Ponder that today. What privileges does being a Christian gain that you may have become numb to; things you’ve taken for granted and lost the sense of wonder and thankfulness for? Forgiveness? Hope? Purpose? Heaven? Love? Peace?
