Day 7

IT CAME TO PASS – Luke 2:1, Romans 8:28-33

Luke 2:1And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

Let’s spend a little time pondering the main lesson gleaned from Sunday’s message: God keeps His promises. He keeps them, not just in the big things, but in the little as well. Caesar issued this decree all because Mary needed to get to Bethlehem from Nazareth; an 80 mile trip in her 9th month of pregnancy with Jesus. And she needed to be in Bethlehem because the prophet Micah had said that’s where the Messiah would be born (Micah 5:2). Apparently, no one with less pull than the Roman Emperor was going to get Mary to make that trip, so God arranged WORLD EVENTS to make sure she was where she needed to be.

We ought not think God did something special with Mary because it involved something so important as the birth of Jesus. That certainly was important. But God didn’t do what He did because it was more important. He did it because His Word can’t fail. It CAN’T! Not possible. That’s as true for you as it was for Mary. That means if God has to move someone half way round the world or the President of the US to make sure His promises to you are kept, He will.

We can be certain of God’s promises to us in the Scriptures no matter what our circumstances. Continue reading Romans 8:37-39. What promise is God making to us there? How do you see this promise being kept by God in your own life?
