Warren Wiersbe suggests for his readers to consider the following. Paul said "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." If you could answer this for your own life what would go in the blanks? Here are a few that have been suggested to stir our consideration: "For me to live is Money, and to die is to leave it all behind", or "For me to live is Fame, and to die is to be forgotten".

Any thoughts...

Any good insights into what Paul is saying?

Paul is saying that he lives his life for Christ. He sees no other purpose in life but to live for the sake of Jesus. With that in mind, we can see how it would be a gain for him to experience death, and thereby spend eternity with Jesus in heaven. He's only alive that he might continue to serve Christ and to bring others to Him. I would certainly agree. Though I do not wish to die young, I do know that I will spend all of my eternal life with the Lord. So, to that end I will gain whenever death comes. In my life, I must seek to honor God and to live as He desires. In my death, I will celebrate that I am with Him.

Let me take a stab at this if I get what you mean: "For me to live is Control, and to die is to yield to His Presence."

There's something evil about "Control" in the life of a believer. It has a way of putting myself on the "throne". It is rooted in unbelief and idolatry. Giving up control means dependence - utter dependence on Him. It requires me to live honestly and to live in His light. Control has a way of compromising and quenching the transformational power of the Holy Spirit. Yielding to His presence is the "acid test" for all believers. Let's be honest, how many of us Bible-believing Evangelical Fundamentalist Christians walk out this life of discipleship under the influence of His presence? To what extent do I invite His presence daily and sometimes moment-by-moment? Will He show up? Or am I for the most part on my own following a set of principles and guidelines for living? Not much different then the average Mormon does.

Do I really apply Hebrews 4:12,13 personally to my life and allow His presence to expose my nakedness in the deepest parts of my soul and spirit? Have you ever thought just how DEEP Hebrews 4:12,13 goes? How DEEP is joints & marrow, thoughts, intents, the heart, soul, and spirit? Or is it just a "cute" verse about the importance of the Bible? When was the last time you were shaken to your core by God's voice, presence, and His word? Would you rather be in control or are you willing to go DEEP with Him?

Who's really in control? I can have perfect creed & doctrine and be idolatrous to the core.

Something to think about.

Whats Up With The Emergent Church?

If you're a believer who's also a net-crawler (someone who spends time on the internet) chances are you're already encountered something called the Emergent Church or the Emergent Church Movement. Unless you've done a LOT of reading, you're probably a bit confused about it. That's because there's no set definition for what "emergent" means.
