A week has passed since the November elections, and I find myself contemplating what post November 4th means for the country, for our state, our county, our church, and my family. I understand the fears some people have leading up to the election, and I would be lying to say I was not feeling some fear. We had so many big decisions to make this election year, and I find myself marveling at the way it all played out.
As I sit, thinking about the next 4 years, I wonder what our country will look like. With all the worry eminating from those around me, I cannot help but search the heart of God to see what to do next. Consider 1 Timothy 2:1-7 (NKJV) Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying— a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
According to 1 Timothy 2, we need to pray. First and foremost, draw near to Jesus, closer than you ever have before. Don't be satisfied with ok. Distractions are everywhere. Satan is working to undermine the foundation we stand. Make sure you are standing on the right foundation, so that you will not stumble. Pray for our leaders, no matter who they are, no matter your opinion of them. God is in control and He alone has put our authorities in their place (Romans 13:1-7). They will have to answer for their actions and we will answer for ours. May our actions reflect the true nature of Christ and let us prepare for the coming harvest!
