On the morning of Tuesday, August 22nd, I was getting ready for work and had the news on while getting dressed. I was watching CNN when an interview by Dan Rivers with Abu Abdullah was aired. You can see the full interview at http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=22219&only=yes
The moment it began, it caught my full attention. As it progressed, my jaw proceeded to drop ever more to the floor. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Not because I was surprised by what Abdullah was saying, but that it was being aired on CNN. I quickly checked the bottom of the TV screen to make sure it wasn’t FOX News or some other channel; sure enough, it was CNN. Then it happened... As the interview progressed, I grew increasingly amazed such a clear defense of terrorism was being spoken by a Muslim cleric. It was a blatant expose of their belief in violence in the name of Allah. It was proof of the very thing many evangelical leaders have been saying about Islam, but now it was being spoken from one of their own mouths! It’s not that they haven’t been saying this right along for years; it’s just that the Western press has not covered it because it’s not PC! Someone at CNN realized they were airing something they''d been told they were NOT allowed/supposed to air, so the interview abruptly cut off, and the feed went back to the desk news anchor, who offered a flustered apology and said they had to break in with breaking news. But the story they went to was another canned piece they could have aired any time. There was no breaking news, no emergency that required the interruption of the Abdullah interview. It was crystal that a CNN executive in the control booth yanked the interview in mid-broadcast. It’s surprising the interview was posted to the CNN site. I guess they had to do this to cover themselves; they couldn’t spike the interview altogether because those looking for the full thing would realize what CNN was doing. Listen to this interview yourself, then send the link to any and everyone you can think of. People need to wake up to the very real threat, not of “radical” Islam – this is just simple, BASIC Islam!
