Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve heard that the long anticipated and much ballyhooed Iraq Study Group Report has finally been released. It wasn’t handed just to policy-makers in Washington and London , it was published in standard book form and released to the public so everyone could view their recommendations. The Iraq Study group was a bi-partisan panel of “experts” who were supposed to research the causes and effects of the current crisis in Iraq and the wider Middle East region. Each member was supposed to bring an area of expertise to the research and discussion. By pooling their collective insights, they were then to generate specific recommendations for how to resolve the current crisis...
There are some dozens of recommendations in the final report. In the words of The First Post, a British online news magazine, the report calls for, “not so much a 'cut and run' policy the Iraq Study group is recommending, as a 'cut and tiptoe away as fast as you can' policy.” It was one specific recommendation I was particularly provoked by. The ISG called for “talks” with the parties inflaming violence throughout the Middle East . If we could just sit down and talk with the militant jihadists, certainly we could reach some kind of consensus. We just need to better understand our enemies. Once we do, we’ll realize that we really don’t need to be enemies. A calm, measured dialog will bring about mutual respect and the awareness that we can negotiate a lasting resolution and peace. Talk, talk, talk. Excuse me, but this recommendation only calls into question the entire rest of the report! It’s terribly naïve to think all that’s needed is talk to end the violence. Negotiation is NOT the answer to the violence now breaking out all over the world at the ands of militant Islamists. There will be no reaching a consensus with them. There’s no “middle-ground” the Modern West can arrive at with Al Qaida and Hizb’Allah. That the ISG doesn’t realize this shows a gross negligence in their research, or, and even worse Pollyannaish outlook that denies the facts that state them in the face as they cling tenaciously to the fiction that talk is the answer to ever problem. The participants of the ISG are well meaning, but their refusal to acknowledge the reality of intractable evil could and would lead to the destruction of the Modern World. Militant Islamists, fanatical jihadists believe they are bound to Allah by an unalterable command to assert the dominance of Islam across the entire globe by any and all means. Islam’s bloody history of conquest through war and assassination ought to disabuse today’s clear thinking statesmen of the fiction that non-Muslim nations can accommodate Islam. Contrary to the stock position of the modern press & politicians, Islam is NOT a religion of peace with the terrorists constituting a tiny minority of heretics within Islam’s ranks. The Jihadist movement is growing precisely because Muslims across the world are realizing it is the purest form of Islam. Indeed, it’s closest to the Islam taught and practiced by Muhammad. Jihadism, to coin a word, is to Islam what Revival is to Christianity – a return to the fundamentals that constitute it’s faith. And we’re supposed to sit down and “negotiate a compromise” with them. According to their faith in Allah, they CANNOT compromise with “Satan,” which is what they call the West, as embodied by the United States and Israel . The lack of understanding about militant Islam would be hilarious were it not so dangerously ignorant. Such ignorance can only be due to a refusal to heed the warnings of sound research, not a lack of exposure. There are several voices, including moderate Muslims, calling for the West to wake up to the threat of Islamic extremists. That policy wogs hold to a negotiated resolution scenario can only mean they’re politically correct outlook has blinded them to the reality of evil. Further evidence of this can be seen in the recent selection of Rep. Silvestre Reyes to head the House Committee on Intelligence, the government’s chief agency deciding national policy on Intelligence operations. In a recent interview he demonstrated a complete ignorance of both Al Qaida’s and Hisb’Allah’s backgrounds. He was unable to name which major Muslim sect back each organization. This is similar to the new National League Baseball Commissioner not knowing what teams play in Chicago and New York . That Reyes would be pegged to head up the Intelligence Committee reveals that our government is treating the war on terror from a political position rather than a military or diplomatic one. The War in Iraq has degenerated into little more than a political battlefield where the two parties are fighting for political hegemony. And while our soldiers die, the world slinks closer to the precipice of all our violence. The politicians are arranging sun chairs on the ever sloping deck of a contemporary Titanic. How about this scenario . . . The people of God and the devil have been at war for about 6,000 years of recorded history. There doesn’t appear to be any end to the current crisis. What we ought to do is sit down with the devil and talk. Certainly he’s as tired of the fighting as we are. So maybe if we could just sit and talk we’d be able to understand one another better and reach some kind of compromise. All we need to do is give the devil an opportunity to air his grievances and tell us what he wants. Then no doubt we can find some common ground, some middle road. Then he can live his life in peace while we live ours. A new day of mutual honor and respect will begin that will grow over time and one day, we’ll all realize that our war-filled was an unfortunate mistake that caused the needless ruin of billions of lives. Yeah, let’s just sit down with Satan and talk. Surely he’s a reasonable fellow. This is absurd, as any sane person recognizes. What they need to go on to realize is that there are some people in this world who are driven by the same commitment to evil as the devil. Though unwitting partners, they are his accomplices, his agent provocateurs with whom no negotiated compromise is possible. Their agenda is total domination. Their religious faith tolerates nothing less. And until Western Leaders wake up to this truth and make policy based on it, apart form the intervention of God, Militant Islam will achieve its objective. Fortunately, the Bible makes it clear Islam will not complete its mission.* But breaking Islam will cost the world dearly. * - Ezekiel 38-39
