It’s important to know the historical setting & situation it was conceived in. So here’s a thumbnail survey of. Abraham, father of the Jewish people was called by God to leave his home in Ur/Mesopotamia & move to the  land that would one day be called Israel. His grandson Jacob’s family moved to Egypt during a time of famine where they were welcomed by the Egyptians. But when another dynasty arose, their descendants, which were many, were made slaves. After 400 yrs in Egypt, Moses led them out in the Exodus – & 40 yrs later Joshua led them into Canaan – the Promised Land. The land was divided up among the 12 tribes of Israel – & because they failed to conquer the utterly corrupt Canaanites who lived there before...

BC in Judah, they’d have covered the ministry of Jeremiah. 4. His was a tough, dirty job – exposing the sin & rebellion of an entire nation for 40 long years. a. They didn’t want to hear it, so they threw him in a pit very much like a sewer.
