Webservant Wanderings

This is interesting, isn't it? I am attaching a message, not by Lance, but by David Platt. No, you did not miss hearing David Platt at our church, this is a recording from last sunday at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham Alabama. Who is David Platt? Dr. David Platt, among other things, wrote a book called Radical, one of my top 10 favorite books I have read. Platt is powerful and can rip you to the core with the message of salvation for you, but more importantly, for the world. He likes to not just nudge, but shove people out of monotonous christianity, to see the LOVE God has for the world, His plan for the world and our role in His plan. See, David Platt looks at the world in ways many of us don't. He preceives a corrupt world of unureached, broken, condemed people bearing the image of God, who need to hear about Christ, who otherwise have...

I was visiting with my sister and her husband a couple weeks ago and we were discussing different biblical resources. They mentioned this website called IAmSecond.com. This weekend I checked it out and OH MY! I Am Second (God is First) is an amazing and powerful website  for strengthening my faith through the compelling stories of people who have experienced the loving salvation of Jesus Christ in their brokenness. The site has numerous testimonials from famous people, but honestly, many of the stories I found most compelling come from those who are no one of consequence in popular culture. Some of the stories I found compelling are: Eric Metaxas (Wrote biography "BONHOEFFER: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy") Ryan Ries Whispering Danny Annie Lobert (Ex-Prostitute) Brian Welch (Formerly of Korn) Lecrae (Christian Rapper) Lee Yih Moriah Peters (American Idol / Christian Singer) Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire)   IAMSECOND.COM        ...

On August 13 2014, Joel Rosenberg posted a moving interview with an Iraqi Pastor. For sake of security, no names or locations are given, but one cannot help but be blessed by hearing about God moving in His people in other cultures, especially cultures in extreme turmoil like Iraq these days.   If you have 20 minutes, have a listen: https://www.joshuafund.com/learn/audio/update_on_iraq_from_an_iraqi_pastor...

"So Far Away" This is actually the name of a song by the Christian Rock band Red. If you have never hear the song, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4GawxzRscE But here are the lyrics if you just like to read: I am right here with You; I couldn't more close; Pretending that I'm in this moment; When I'm only a ghost I listen to the words You're saying; Words I'm fighting to believe; It's like I'm living from a distance; When You're out of reach Remember when you found me drowning; You pulled me from the deepest end; I promised that I'll never leave You; Now I'm drowning again It's killing me with every breath, Witnessing the life I lived; Only You know who I am; I'm reaching out my hand I wanna feel it when I mean it when I say it; Can You hear me at all And I feel so far away, far away from everything Outside wondering when I got lost I threw my arms up in the air, why do I...

I was listening to Air One recently and the DJ was talking about a letter he had received a while back from a girl who was struggling with her relationship with Christ. It was so good that I had to re-post it for you to read. Original: http://www.air1.com/blog/brant/post/2011/08/04/On-Giving-Up-A-Response-to-a-16-Year-Old-Girl.aspx Hi Brant, I'm Jane. Just another 16-year-old girl. And I don't know if you have time for this, probably not, but I need someone to talk to right now, and some advice. And my friends have their own problems, so I don't want to bother them with mine, mostly because they can't really help me, but I felt like I needed to reach out to someone, and you seem like a good guy, so, anyway...

There is a saying "You can't buy happiness", which I know to be true, but I am often tempted to use the resources God has given me for my own selfish fulfillment. This is spoken about in Matthew 6:19-24 where Jesus teaches us to lay up treasures in heaven. I have personified this passage by spending less of my resources on myself and more on others, be it my family. friends or just people in need. When we help others we physically feel euphoric, which is not the primary reason Jesus calls to help others, but is a tangible reward we experience when we put others first. This euphoric feeling is why many who do not follow Jesus tend to do nice things for people as they are rewarded for such actions. I read this interesting article today which shows scientific proof that being selfish will damage health and helping others will promote overall health. It is an interesting read: http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/your-genes-dont-lie-you-cant-buy-true-happiness.html From the...

So this last Monday I’m sitting in my bible study while we are covering a condensed version of Crown Financial Ministries; the basics of biblical ways to wisely manage money. The topic comes up about what the bible says about Surety, the idea that a financial promise by a party to assume responsibility for the debt of another party (ie co-signing) and the larger topic of debt. God teaches that we should only borrow what we have the ability to pay off. This is supported by verses like “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7 NIV). So one of our regular study attendees asks how we handle heavy debt loads and how the principal works with buying a home. The argument was given that you have to weigh what is more important, but ultimately when God calls you to do something, stepping out in...

I don't know about you, but music is a major driving force in my life. Music draws me closer to the Lord and really helps me experience Him in a more profound way. I often find myself searching for strong and powerful songs with a message that hits me in the face with a sledgehammer. A couple songs I have been listening to recently have really caught my attention, not just because of the music, but the words. The first song is David Crowder "Shadows" featuring Lecrae. This was a live recording and made it on a compilation CD a while back. The song is not new, but this version is. Lecrae is a Christian rapper and quite well known for his straight forward lyrics. During Crowder's song, Lecrae delivers a verse from his song "Boasting", which is just simply wonderful. With every breath I take, with every heart beat, Sunrise and the moon...
