The Sacrifice God Wants -Psalm 51

Like Psalm 32 we looked at yesterday, Psalm 51 was written after David’s sin with Bathsheba. In vs. 16-17, David says the sacrifice God looks for isn’t an animal offered on an altar. It’s a heart broken open in repentance.

In all the many sacrifices Jews had brought to the temple for centuries, what God really wanted was for them to merely be an outward expression of an inner reality; that being hearts surrendered to Him.

As David says, God doesn’t desire rituals, rules, regulations, performance, and pious practices so much as humble hearts looking for expression in these things.

Motive is the bottom line for all we do. Let’s seek God for grace and the ability to always place our hearts (selves) on His altar.
