Luke – Dec. 18

“Search Me, O God”

Read Luke 20:9-19

This parable Jesus tells follows on the leaders’ challenge of Jesus in vs. 1-8. It exposed their unreasoned opposition to Him. As leaders, no one was better poised to recognize Who and What He was. All evidence pointed to Jesus as their Messiah.

The leaders’ rejection of Jesus is shocking and egregious because we understand it as supremely irrational. Even an unbeliever’s reading of this passage puts her/him in the place of drawing the same conclusion—that the leaders’ rejection of Jesus was ill-advised.

That the leaders DID, in fact, reject Jesus drives home the point that we must be on guard against prejudices that would cloud our thinking and hijack our conclusions.

Ask God to reveal attitudes and thoughts that interfere with the work of His Spirit and may be hindering the effect of His Truth.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.Psalm 139:23–24
