Luke – Dec. 12

The ChoiceLuke 18:18-19

Jesus’ initial reply to the ruler was the beginning of his answer to the question. The man called Jesus “morally excellent”. The term is a superlative that lifted Jesus above others. Jesus pushed back on that label by asking the man WHY he used it. Was it flattery to gain Jesus’ attention? Or did he recognize Jesus really was “good”?

Jesus then clarified that in terms of moral excellence, only One qualified to be given that attribute: God. Note carefully that Jesus didn’t turn down the accolade. He only made sure the man realized what he’s said and by implication, Who Jesus was.

Because when God speaks, when He tells us something, we’re faced with a choice; to either comply or reject.
