Luke – Day 48

DistractionsLuke 10:40

Note the first 6 words of v. 20 carefully. What was Martha’s mental state? What was she distracted by? What was she distracted from?

Some of the distractions of our lives aren’t our choice; a barking dog, crying baby, pain. Others are self-inflicted, as Martha’s here. She chose to be distracted by serving. That distraction could easily have been set aside by stopping. The choice was hers.

What are the distractions that keep you from spending time at Jesus’ feet, allowing His Spirit to pour Himself into and renew you? They may be good things, needed things, but have been given a higher priority than sitting at the Lord’s feet. A good thing, at the wrong time, becomes a wrong thing. Nothing can replace the time we give Jesus to speak life into us.
