Luke – Day 16

IT’S COMING – Luke 4:1-2; Luke 3:21; 1 Peter 5:8-9; 1 Corinthians 10:13

When examining how Jesus dealt with temptation in Luke 4, people often begin with Luke v. 4. But His preparation for handling temptation begins back in v. 21 of ch. 3 where we read of His baptism. Jesus was baptized so as to fully identify with humanity. And it was as a man that Satan tempted Him.

One of the first principles we need to install to deflect temptation is to recognize it’s coming. No matter how mature we are or how strong we are in the Spirit, the enemy will entice us to sin. Meditate on 1 Peter 5:8-9à “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, . . .”

It is important to anticipate Satan’s attacks so we know how best to resist temptation. Identify and make a list of your personal sinful weak areas. Where are you most prone to sin? Why do you think Satan uses these specific areas to attack you in?
